Probiotics and metformin

HI all. I've been diabetic for a while controlled with diet and exercise but recently an HBC1a test showed my blood sugars have shot up. I'm on low dose metformin now (just 10 days in) which I am trying to increase as prescribed but suffered with the dreaded bowel problem when I had the first increased dose. Do probios help or has anyone tried immodium during those 'testing times'.

If you're suffering and not improving, ask for slow release Metformin. Most people have no problems with that, but some still can't tolerate it.

As @ajbod suggested you can ask for slow release if it doesn’t settle down, I’ve been on ordinary Metformin 13 odd years, I don’t have any problems with it but the very odd time I do get tummy “upsets” usually from the food I’ve eaten being to spiced or something and not necessarily the met I’ve taken Imodium without problems. I checked with the pharmacist first and they said it was absolutely fine to take with metformin
