Hello
T2 recently diagnosed. Doing well on LCHF. 7 weeks in and happy with results. No meds at this stage. Meter readings average 5 - 5.8. Lost 7.5 kilos which puts me a third of the way to my long term body weight goal. I have found my digestive system has now accepted the change in diet and is functioning with daily regularity, however I have noticed it is most happy the days I eat live probiotic yogurt. So my questions: How much probiotic yogurt is necessary for the gut to utilise it? Is the Psyllium option better? What do prescription probiotics do and does anyone recommend them. I eat ground flax every second day and almonds, macadamias and brazils in small quantities most days. Loads of green veg too.

Congrats on your positive results! When you say your digestive system is happy, do you mean when you don't have constipation, or something else, as I'm not sure what you meant?

I have taken psyllium for constipation and recently switched to flaxseeds as I think they will be better. Personally I don't believe probiotics are necessary unless I've just had a course of antibiotics. The gut microflora environment is very diverse and scientifically there's no reason to believe that consuming certain additional types of flora will help. I think taking probiotic pills every day is a waste of money but the yoghurt tastes good and if you find it helps, go for it.
