Hi

I have got what looks like a large blood blister on the heal of my foot. I have had it since last Thursday. I have noticed it has got bigger in the last few days and this evening it is starting to throb a little in the area however it isn't sore to touch.

Should I be worried or am I okay to let it heal itself?

Thanks

Hi

you need to see your GP/podiatrist asap. Dont let it fester. You need to get as much weight as possible of it as well. Even speak to your diabetic nurse. Anyone really. The podiatrist will want to to deroof it and apply antispetic dressing. You might need some covering antibiotics as well.

Good luck

As a diabetic, you are allowed to refer yourself to the podiatry department of your hospital. you don't need to go through your doctor or DSN ( I was told at my hospital)

I agree that you need to have this looked at particularly if your blood sugar control has not been good lately.

If it is a friction blister Compeed plasters can help a lot.

You can buy these in Boots and many other pharmacies.

PLEASE go and have this checked by a podiatrist or diabetes nurse, or any medically qualified person, just do not take the risk.
I had just a small blister on my foot and it appeared to heal on the outside but somehow it was invasive, my bg was totally out of control at the time, double figures. I was in hospital for 6 weeks, strong antibiotics for the entire 6 weeks in hospital and after discharge from there district nurses came to see me twice daily giving me antibiotic injections, oral meds too. I was told I could have lost half of my leg, so better to be safe than sorry.

Hope all goes well for you.

Karen
