Type 2 Problems first thing in the morning - Help!

Type 2
I was diagnosed with T2D nearly 2 years ago - following 35 years of taking steroid (Prednisolone). I'm currently on my 3rd kidney transplant. I take Gliclazide, 160mg x 2 daily.

I have managed to control my blood sugar levels really well (HFLC). However, my morning experiences upon waking are shocking. To put it bluntly I feel terrible, unwell and 'off it it'. This gradually wears off throughout the morning; and then in the afternoon and evening I am back to normal. I dread going to bed.

I have tried to remedy this by waking in the night to eat some carbs - but the result is always the same. It doesn't matter if my morning BS is 5.0 or 8.0 - I still feel the same (terrible). The only thing that helps is something sweet - but why? Especially, as my BS is in the OK range??

Has anyone experienced this; and can you please give me some advice?

Thanks, Paul

Hi @Spike2016, Sorry to hear of your kidney troubles.
I wonder if you are prescribed other medication for your kidney and whether this has anything to do with your morning symptoms?
Glicazide can cause nausea, vomiting, abdominal pain and upset of liver function - so ? a possible cause.
Might need your Gp or specialist to help you sort it.
It certainly would put anyone off wishing for tomorrow - so a real downturn in your quality of life.
I hope the cause is easily found and dealt with!!
Best Wishes !!

Thanks for replying kitedoc. But these symptoms only started when I became T2D, so I am inclined to think it is related to diabetes in some way. Looks like a trip to the GP is in order - to be honest I just get sick of going to the NHS. I'm currently waiting for a new knee, and the lack of mobility is not helping my BS levels! Anyway, thanks again, and have a good weekend! :)
