Hi All !!

New to this site , typing question for my hubby ,

I would like any suggestions please.

My hubby is on metformin 500mg 2 twice daily , and sitagliptin 100mg one at night .Also loads of meds as history of a heart attack at 50 (non smoker, vegi, teetotal at the time !) he recently was prescribed glizazide 40mg one daily as an addition as hbac1 was 8.2 .this did bring his sugars down quite well and last hba1 was 7.2 but the side effects to gliclazide were awful so he has stopped them .Mainly sharp stabbing chest pain , it was the glizclizide as stopped and started 3 times over 5 months and each time the stabbing came back . After a history of an heart attack , you really dont need this type of heart related side effect , Anyway , the question is , what to take now as an addition ??
any suggestions please??

hi, welcome both of you :)

can i ask, have you tried approaching things from the other direction? what sugar is in us, is mainly put in by us, has he modified hes diet to avoid sugar and carbohydrates? does he exercise? (bearing in mind hes heart issues?) both diet and exercise can have dramatic effects of bg

Hi Andy ,
He doesnt smoke , or drink alcohol , but his diet could be better , sugar seems to be in everything ! and we both should exercise more , we do walk quite a bit , maybe we should try harder .!!! will keep you posted .

it;s not what he should do with diet and exercise, it's what he will do.
any reason why it hasn't been increased to 2,000 metformin with an A1c over 7?
go back to Dr and tell that Gli is no good, he may increase the metformin and/or give another drug, there are a lot to chose from
