Several years ago I needed a total left knee replacement and joined the bonesmart forum which seems very similar to here but obviously a different topic.

One of the plusses with that site was that there were medical professionals so although you could discuss items with other members there was always a steering/guiding hand keeping an eye on proceedings.

Do you have similar here? If so how can they be identified?

Thanks

Short answer is no. Have a read of the forum rules here: https://www.diabetes.co.uk/forum/threads/community-ethos-forum-rules.50278/

This is the relevant section:

11. Important: Members are generally not Health Care Professionals, and those who are participate on the Forum as Members, not Health Care Professionals. Members are unable to diagnose any condition, or instruct in the alteration of medication, irrespective of personal or professional standing or experience.

The moderators act to ensure forum discussion is within the forum ethos and rules.

On the other hand, there is a moderator team plus a whole lot of members looking out for eachother.

If someone posts outright dangerous advice, it will be removed by us for safety.
If people post things that are medically incorrect, there will always be members explaining how or why.
If a member might be in acute danger, members are very quick to urge them to see a medical professional right away.

If you ever see a post where you feel it needs the attention of the mod team, please use the report button.
This will open a window where you can explain why you reported, reporting is not just for when you think someone did something wrong.
