Prostate Cancer Risks

I found it interesting that some things you would have thought would increase the risk such as drinking alcohol don't have any impact and that for once being diabetic actually lowers your chances of getting something!! - if your a man that is

Yes .. but, ironically, you are more likely to be cured of prostate cancer than diabetes :***:

My thoughts entirely lovinglife, something positive instead of the usual dull and gloom stories in the press :)

Take your point gezza but I'd sooner have diabetes than prostate cancer, though ideally I would rather not have both!

Exactly my thoughts too. :D I slipped a PSA test onto the back of my annual bloods by chatting up the nurse at my local health centre, as I have been peeing for England for the last few months... no drought here! So, after utltrasound of bladder and prostate exam (now I know how Sooty felt!) all is OK. The peeing is down to the 10 mugs of coffee per day, apparently. :crazy:

Good news that your bladder is OK Gezza :thumbup:

You do know that Caffeine acts as a diuretic, I found switching to decaff made a big difference.

Thanks. Trouble is that I am a bit 'hooked' on caffeine and it's my only remaining vice (he said out of earshot of 'er indoors).
The urologist said to cut down to 5 mugs but even that sounds rather generous of him, so I'll have to build myself up (or down?) to one or two. I I will give the decaff a try. It's gonna be as bad as giving up smoking. Did you see the TV program about how coffee is decaffeinated? If not, best not to. :wink:

I've heard blueberry juice is 'supposed' to help prevent PC..I like it too but it's not kind on my levels{sigh}

Didn't know that. Quite like blueberries. I'm sure that when cranberry juice became the craze a few years back it was because it was also supposed to help prevent it too (or was it thrush? or both?), if my memory serves me right.

I seen it on Food Unwrapped last week. TBH it didn't put me off, if you remember the guy said the agent they use to get rid of the caffeine from the beans is thoroughly washed out and only very small traces are left behind, not enough to be a danger to public health.

I drink Nescafe Decaff and find it tastes no difference to the normal Nescafe coffee, yes you don't get the caffeine kick if that's what you need but otherwise it's fine, same as tea I drink PG Tips Decaff and have noticed no difference, the 3 cups of green tea I drink a day has little caffeine in so I don't worry about that.

The reason I stopped drinking caffeinated drinks was for the same reason as you.........peeing all the time :D When I first mentioned it on the forum about switching to decaff a member (who was a delivery driver working nights) did the same, he was stopping at every service station up and down the road, after making the change himself he too noticed a big difference, might be worth a try but like all things it may not make the slightest bit of difference to you Gezza.

It sounds like it's worth a try. Getting a sudden and desperate urge in the middle of the park and the odd 'leak' (if you'll pardon the expression) is not pleasant, especially when the dog insists on stopping to sniff everything in sight! It's just as well that the urologist said my bladder wall was nice and thick but I'm fed up with the muscle exercises! I might start by having a 'real' coffee to wake me up then decaff. for the rest of the day, starting tomorrow and will give it a few days for adjustment. Will post if I hit a dry spell.

Right, I've got some Nescaff/Decaff at the ready. Promise me it won't turn me into a low-carb vegan who loves Donkey Sanctuaries though. :shock: :shock:
