I have started to low carb and it is so nice to not have to inject as often! But according to phlaunt and my fitness pal, it's says I should be having around 60g protein. However I'm always over, around 100g. I'm not looking to lose weight and not worried about going into ketosis. Does it matter? Should I be worried?
My typical day is:
Breakfast: greek yoghurt, berries and flax seeds
Lunch: 2 egg cheese/ham omelette and salad
Dinner: chicken, veg
Snacks: jelly, 90% dark choc
You'll more than likely find you will still need to inject but hopefully not as much insulin with each dose, protein in the absence of carbs converts to glucose by around 50-60% so you need to keep this in mind.
But tbh its trial & error when you replace carbs with protein & fat and you will eventually work out how much insulin you need for each meal, good luck.
if you aren't looking to lose weight and you have good kidneys, you wouldn't be the only person eating high protein.
are you eating enough fats/oils? you may be driven to eat more protein for energy?
you can't do low carb and low fat, it won't work long term.
At the moment my glucose levels are increasing 1-2 mmol after eating and then stay at that level for a few hours. I am eating 100g fat and around 30-40g carb.
What can I replace the protein with? Before diagnosis I always snacked on protein but did not really think about it in too much detail.
Everything I have seems to have protein in! Any recommended substitutes?

Hi asyarlk, it sounds like it's working ok for you.
By my calculations your diet is around 28% (Cal/Cal) of protein. This really isn't all that excessive, I personally like to keep around 20 to 25 percent.

Sounds like a pretty good diet. If you wanted to drop the protein just a touch you could just go slightly less on the chicken and add a few more low carb veggies topped with butter for that dinner (eggplant and/or cauli would be my pick there). Yum.
