For those of us who train in the gym , wanted to know is using creatine and protien powders for body building ok for us with Type 2 Diabetes.
Can or does it have impact on kidney or liver function ?
I have recently started working out, been recomended to add cretine and protien whey and pre work out supplements by Trainer. However I was sceptical and wanted to take inputs from community here and discuss with my GP before starting those supplements.

Protein is fine to take as long as you don't already have a kidney condition. I'm which case your Doctor may advise you to limit Protein.

I'd be interested to know what impact a protein shake has on bg.

Question is whether you actually need it. Most of us get more than enough protein from our diet. If you're eating enough calories, you'll be getting enough protein. Excess is wasted.

The workout industry has done a great job of making everyone worry they should be eating tons of extra protein we don't need. When we actually have much bigger diet issues as a society :)

If you're training like an athlete, or your diet is deficient. Then go for the protein.

Thanks so much for replying. I currently don’t have any know kidney issues. But would go to my GP and get the latest blood work done and then check with him if it’s good to start.

If he gives a go ahead will check the impact of protein shakes on BG and share it here

I am a vegetarian so tough for me to get all the protien I need for workout.

I am trying to train like an athlete at the moment trying to transform my self in a good way ..hope it works

Thanks again for replying.

I’m not type 2
When I go to the gym (7.30am) I can lift heavier if I have poached or scrambled eggs on wholemeal toast (small slice 12g carbs total)
Straight after I have some cheese & a few nuts (4g carbs)
An hour after I have a protein shake with unsweetened almond milk (4g carbs)
Then eat normally for the rest of the day
Think it’s about finding out what works for you as we’re all different

Thanks do you take creatine as well ?
Also, do you take 1 scoop of whey isolate ?
Last has taking protien or creatine impacted your blood sugar or any noticeable issues at all ?

No I don’t take creatine or whey isolate,
Cheese & nuts straight after a workout stabilise my blood sugar & protein shakes don’t raise it (I use protein works)
On non gym days I have casien with unsweetened almond milk for elevensies (pbn 1.6g carbs)
I weigh 48kg & eat roughly 100g of protein a day & about 80g carbs, mainly from vegetables & berries & the odd small pear & apple (always paired with peanut butter)
& slice of toast before workouts
