Hi ,
I'm new to this forum.
I have read a few things about low carb diets being a 'good thing'. I have type 2 and am currently controlling it using diet/execise.
The thing is this..if I reduce my carbs does that mean I can up my fats ( good fats) and protein?
I had a pancreatic condition and was told to be careful of my fat intake..also I workout 3 times a week in a gym and like to consume a protein supplement (low carb)..but I am now wortried that this might affect my kidneys. I am a vegetarian and watch what I eat but this low carb thing has got me very confused...it sounds like (in my case)..if I follow all the advice I've heard I'd be on low carb , low fat and low protein...which sounds like I should be getting my nourishment..by merely breathing air !!!!!
I have also found that after a hard training session in the gym my blood sugar level rises ..sometimes quite sharply...from roughly 6 (first thing in the morning before gym ..about 6am....to as high as 9.5 after a heavy workout...without even eating anything)...this is alarming.
I would be grateful for some good advice.
Thanks in advance
Raj

I think that low carb might work for many of the members of this forum, most of the diabetics I know in real life are generally well controlled without being low carb. Best thing to do is to try different things out and see how it works for you.

A rise in BG after exercise isn't rare. since you experience it early in the day, it might be part of the Dawn Phenomenon.
The usual composition of a low carb diet is fairly high fat. Unless your kidneys are damaged, it hasn't been shown that proteins are harmful.
It was shown by Yudkin that a low carb diet is beneficial for gallbladder trouble.
