Protein shakes and sugar levels

Hi,

Anyone got any experience with protein shakes and T1 diabetes? I have got a non flavoured no sugar shake which I mix with sugar free rolled oats and fresh fruit.

I do 2 units of insulin prior to cover the carbs however my sugar levels go horrendously high.

I work out so the protein shakes help my repair my muscles but I'm getting tired of trying to find something which doesn't send my sugars crazy.

Any help would be appreciated

How do you determine your insulin dose for this meal?

Do you calculate carbs and calculate your insulin dose according to that with an insulin to carbs ratio?
A breakfast of oats and fruits is high in carbs, even without accounting for the protein shake.
What happens if you have the same breakfast without the shake, is your insulin dose working well for that?
