Protein

Don't want to lose but gain muscle

Just my thoughts: Protein is essential for maintaining muscle mass, you want to add more then you will need to eat enough carbs to support muscle growth along with enough protein. The fewer carbs you eat, the more weight you lose, the more you eat the more you gain and you cannot gain muscle mass without gaining some fat. Just got to keep it all in proportion. And watch what BG levels are doing as you increase or decrease food types.

Protein shakes, whey protein, get a clean one if that's what you want. Not a mass builder, it's full of sugar and all sorts of ****. .Or make your own, you don't have to have a protein powder. They just make consuming an easily digestible protein very easy and they are absorbed fairly quickly.

Your team clearly know when to back off. You know your body better than anyone and are smart enough to treat it properly so they don't mess with success.

I couldn't agree more that it's simply not necessary to eat as much as seems to be the norm. Stay away from the carbs and there's no cycle of sugar high, crash, need more sugar. Simple, once you know.

In this recent small scale study of inflammation due to carbs,
Meal rich in carbohydrate, but not protein or fat, reveals adverse immunometabolic responses associated with obesity

They have this little chart that compares the glucose/insulin response between high carb, high protein and high fats meals. It is interesting to note the insulin response is significantly higher for the high protein meal vs high fats meal. If we subscribe to the chronically elevated insulin leads to insulin resistance model, this provide some insights/basis into why high fats meal is preferred for T2D who are obese/insulin resistant.

And if we want to reduce/prevent muscle loss, then we need to have adequate exercise...eating protein alone will not build muscles.

Thanks Kitty! They know I'm very well controlled and take very small doses of insulin. They say it's MY diabetes but they are always there to answer any questions or refill prescriptions. I adore this dr and his nurse as well.

At the end of the day I probably eat 2 cups of food. Haha. But it's all very high quality and nutrient rich. In fact when I eat more food or too much I feel lousy. Tired, weak, hungry etc. I have digestive issues somthese smaller meals suit me better. I also very much enjoy very low carbing and eating wonderful fats!!! I love almost all food but I don't need to eat it all in one meal. There are always more meals ahead and I know where to get more food. Haha.
