Just had my 6 month diabetes check up, went to see the DN and she said everything was ok, on leaving I gave her a urine sample,10 days later the Dr rang me to say there was a fair amount of protein in my urine, could I do another on in 2 weeks time, and the evening tea time the night before could I have a none protein meal, could this be linked to diabetes, also I was told in 2003 that I had protein in my urine and the Drs said it was nothing to worry about, any help and advise would be most welcome.

Protein in you urine could be a sign of impaired kidney function, which could be a diabetic complication.

Then again I am not a doctor and there could be a different more benign explanation.

It does not sound like your doctor is overly concerned, your next test is in two weeks time so probably not such a serious or urgent matter.

I suggest that you put it out of your mind until you have your follow up test and get to speak to your doctor.

Agree with what Pavlosn has said, try not to worry and see what the results say.

Several years ago I was told that there was a lot of protein in my urine and that it could be caused by my kidneys working hard to eliminate the amount of fluid (water in my case) that I was consuming and that protein was getting flushed out as well. It wasn't life threatening, I'm still here. Ask your doctor, see what he/she says.
All the best
