The only hard thing I had to cope with diet wise for kidneys was the salt aspect. I never added it to cooking anyway but it is in so many processed foods. I had to eat very few processed foods. I have acid reflux and associated symptoms, and was leaning on Gaviscon quite a lot. I only use it as a last resort now. Certain medications can't be taken when you have CKD too.
Thank you for that link. Very interesting. I seem to be having the right number of grams based on the grams per kilo recommended for diabetics but it works out at 25% of my energy intake, not the 10% recommended for diabetics!!! If I made the same number of grams10% I would have to be eating a lot of carbs to make up the discrepancy.
This link sets a minimum recommended amount for protein, and also says a share of up to 25% of the diet as protein can be beneficial if it replaces refined carbs.
What it doesn't do is set an upper limit except for people with existing kidney disease. So in terms of the OP question we are none the wiser...
For those who have a low GFR, how are you managing your diet? I found out yesterday that I shouldn't be eating wholemeal and especially seeded bread for instance and should ideally stick to white carbs...we all know the consequences of that!
I like the idea of nuts for snacks, but nuts are very high in protein and to be kept to a minimum in kidney disease. How are you managing to keep both conditions happy diet wise? Thanks.
