Wouldn't say I fell off the wagon as such, but I certainly 'let loose' at the pub last night, at a special occasion with friends. I had quite an intense carbohydrate intake after a good 5 weeks on LCHF. Two beers, burger, fries - the lot.
I probably could have had a little more NovoRapid but even so, my BG peaked just over 14 which wasn't disastrous considering!?
Obviously I'm not intending to make a habit of this, but I think the recent diagnosis and being so strict on myself make me feel a bit rebellious!
Jx
Yep, it's pretty easy to end up in double figures even for well controlled people. Meals out can be more tricky but if the venue is part of a chain then you can often find nutritional information on-line and get the inside track on the insulin calculations.
Hey - who doesn't from time to time? We aren't robots and that is what insulin is for anyway!
The Co-op sell baked-in-store custard doughnuts and jammy doughnuts that just happen to be vegan ...... I have several times disgraced myself
Thanks! Thats what I needed to hear. Felt quite guilty this morning...
Hi there, the way I see it is that you should feel no more 'guilt' than a person without diabetes who had the same 'blow out', ie the friends that were with you. Why should you? I certainly don't advocate throwing caution to the wind when it comes to food choice, I never have even before I got diagnosed, my diet was generally good with very occasional blow outs. Having said that, it does make sense not to have a blow out if you know it is going to affect your health and this is where issues can arise. I am generalising but if I was type 2 I would be less inclined to indulge because it would probably take days to process it all back to normal and I would have no real means of combating it swiftly.. However, as a type 1 I have the means to keep my glucose levels down if I decide to have a blow out but that only comes with plenty of practice and experience and even then with relative risk. Do you feel guilt because you are a diabetic or because you strayed from your choice of LCHF diet? I hope people don't think I am saying eat what you want and who cares (that's not me) but if I choose to eat something carby that I don't normally have (say an occasion or whatever) then the one thing I don't feel is guilty. x
It might be a different experience if you were on very low carb/ keto diet though.
Yep blow outs can do the world of good, needless to say it's just a case of playing catch up
