Went out for a pub meal last night. As I was ordering, with the usual 'no chips, extra salad please' the manager overheard. He let me really fiddle with the set menu and didn't charge extra. The standard burger and chips ended up as two burgers with cheese and bacon, a large portion of mushrooms and an even larger portion of salad. A fiver. Not bad eh.

I was just about to post the name of the pub when I realised I don't want to be accused of blatant advertising. PM me if you want the name, it's in Leicester.

It's going to take me years to check out the local pubs around these parts, but agreed, one thing that helps majorly is when they allow you to tweak the menu to your requirements.

Usually when we eat out I have my mother, who is tiny and eats a starter for a main meal, and someone who is either a carbophile or a vegetarian in tow. They get bonus points if they can deal with all our requirements without whingeing.
