Pump and cold temperatures

James went out sledging but did not want to have his pump on cos of very cold temp, so went with his wishes. He had 2 low sugars but brought himself back. Away for 3 hours but no signal on phone. Thank god he is so sensible. Hot bath and fed and everything ok. Same again tomorrow????
Has anyone done this or have any comments or advice for maybe again tomorrow
 
Remotes dont work when too cold..

Did he take pump totally off or just leave remote?

If took pump off.. Good for him.. Considering he went low.. I would say if he did take pump off today. Do again tomorrow but lower basals for two hours before he goes if poss... This wld keep him up a bit more whilst sledging.

If just case of leaving remote behind.. I again would lower basal before he goes out including the whole time he is out...

Does that make sense?

Make sure he has hypo stoppers with him!
 

And get him some Little Hotties handwarmers (eBay or some pharmacies). They keep hands lovely and warm for upto 12-18hrs.
 
Thanks both. Did take remote and seemed to work that time but has had trouble in past when footy training. Pump was off completely cannula as well, seemed to work. He had so many layers on was well and truly cosy and still cosy before jumping into bath. He always takes a small rucksack when out with mates making sure he has plenty of sugary drinks and starchy carbs at all times. He is very sensible regarding his health which is a great relief to me. No sledging today starting to melt. I can't say I'm not pleased. Thanks again
 
Good for James.. For a youngster it good to have freedom and to decide when and what to do. He certainly made a wise choice to remove pump.. Adrenaline and , good activities and fun can certainly lower levels.
Well done him for taking off and low level recognition.. And the rucksack...
