Pump question

Hi, I have recently been recommended by my diabetic consulsultant to go on a pump as my HbA1c is good (50 IFCC) however my blood sugars are still up and down everyday. I am now being put through to the consultant in my hospital that deals with insulin pumps but I am very anxious that he might diagree with the application for a pump. How long does the process usually take? And how do I get support and advice throughout he process as it is making me very anxious and I am obsessing over it as I have been waiting a long time to be considered for a pump.
 
Don't be anxious as your pump team will guide you through every step of the process, from approval to actually pumping insulin was around 3 months for me.

welcome to the forum :)

I was first put forward for a pump in august 2014 by my endocrinologist and I finally started on it 12 days ago -- so only 13 months -haha:D

don't stress -- some HCT's are quicker than others -- they will most likely assess your ability to carb count ( DAFNE course)
and it may depend on funding as well for the speed

Hi and thankyou for your reply. I am just anxious that the consultant I am seeing for the pump will not agree with my diabetic consultant as he will not know the background to my diabetes etc. And as my HbA1c is good he may think that everything must be going. How long did it take to get your approval on the pump?
 
Nearly a years wait for me but that was partly down to me wanting to wait for the new Minimed 640G to get released on Isle of Man. ;-) I have only been on mine for just over a fortnight and I am loving it!! :-) No where near as many hypos and I'm sleeping a LOT better so am feeling much more alert during day. I can't believe how much better I've been feeling!! :-)
 
was set for my start date today but an error occured and now need to wait until the end of November to see if I can get my go ahead which would be the 7th December, I had a CGM fitted for 5 days and the readings were terrible especially during the night, at first the consultant would not listen and when the DSN stepped in he said he would agree the funding if the hypo awareness did not improve, this has only gone on since July this year so quite fast for me (if I get it :() it may depend on your hospital and DSN.

thanks for the advice Gaz-M that is super quick! I hope you get it soon as it is also an emotional process to go through. Good luck to yourself!
 
I was devistated today when the DSN called and told me as I was only there this afternoon but she was gutted :(

I was quite nervous at the start of using it but then again after 43 years it would be a relief to stop the MDI if you know what I mean. just try push ahead and go for it
