Hi there,
I have been using a Medtronic pump with combined CGM for just over 2 years now, and am due to have my labour induced later this week. Does anyone have any experiences of using a pump during labour? My community midwife seems to be terrified at the prospect, but I am more terrified at the prospect of leaving the drip to the medics! My consultant has been understanding and is allowing me to continue to use the pump for as long as possible, but any helpful tips/hints would be useful!
Thanks,
Sarah

I don't personally have experience but a friend does. She has given birth twice and stayed on insulin pump through the labour. The hospital are very anti this and try and make you change to drip but after doing research she refused and stayed on pump. She trained her husband so he could test and adjust if needed. I have no idea what her settings were but I know she was so glad she did this. There is a book on Amazon about pumping during pregnancy which might help.

I recently used my pump during eye surgery. The eye team said ahead of time that they wanted to remove it during the op. I protested and they agreed to contact the diabetes team for surgical protocols. So contact your hospital diabetes team and see if they have a labour protocol or delivery protocol for the pump. You will probably find they have lots of other pregnancy support as well.
