Hi all just been told I am getting a pump in March. I got a text from my nurse that is doing the training asking if I would be ok if one of the doctors contacted me about a study on bone density on people before and after starting on the pump
Is this something that happens when going on to the pump (don't think so) or is this just another thing to deal with being type 1
 

Probably just a trial of some sort.... Or just background research for the doctor...
 
I've just started on a pump and I wasn't asked about this. It sounds like that particular doctor is involved in the running of this study and has asked the nurses to direct suitable subjects to him.

I'm pretty sure there are no known issues with bone density and pumps. If anything, they are probably expecting to see an improvement on the pump.

You can always decline to talk about it, or you can contact the doctor to find out more, thenstill decline to take part.
 
I'm starting on a pump very soon and not been asked, perhaps they are just asking certain diabetic clinics to take part.
 
I don't mind doing the study just had never heard anything about bone problems
I will let you no what I find out
 
Strange request, perhaps high blood sugars causes a depletion in calcium causing lower bone density over time? So they are comparing pumps to non pumps around the same age and time span to see if it helps out ?

I would totally participate in a study if asked, its a chance to potentially help out all of us!

Also congratulations on the pump! Which one are you looking to get ?
 
There is a correlation between diabetes, low vitamin d3 and low calcium levels. I suspect they are doing some research into this.
 
Don't no what pump I am getting have looked at dif ones would like the one that has no tubing but will need to Wait and see
