Feeling high, people not understanding the difference between type 1 + 2, those people who dont listen!
Hi All, well Ive had my pump now for about 4 years which I am pleased about, far easier than MDI's, yet still my HBA1C's are not as the docs say "as good as they could be", sigh from me again ..... ive tried low carb, more exercise, low protein, testing every hour for days amongst other things and yet still the HBA1C is at 8.2 - when will it ever get down? Does anyone have any advice on what they've tried that works? I try every day but still just dont quite get there and well as you know yourself it gets you down after a while. Any advice greatly appreciated. Thanks, Sally

Hi Sally, you wont have a change in A1c in 4 hours.
Once you have settled into using your pump and all basal insulin gone from your system then if you haven't done any do your basal testing. This is a good indicater where things need adjusting.
Also what are your meter readings telling you? Are you high before meals 2 hours after, durring the night? Or just high all the time?

Have any more health problems been explored as to why your A1c is so high?

Hi, thanks for showing me that Id made a mistake, should have been years not hours!! I have done the basal testing and it is showing highs before lunch so I have altered my dose and also carb ratios but no luck so far. The only other thing going on is some laser treatment on one of my eyes but mainly the stress that that has been causing has caused my levels to rocket. Hey ho, perhaps I am impatient, but I had hoped that being on the pump would be easier, it is in some ways but now there are more things to monitor, check evaluate and all that. I sometimes feel that diabetes is taking hold of me rather than the other way round. Must get back on track it seems. Thanks for responding.

Hi Sally,
I wasn't having a dig at the 4 four hours, I just couldn't work out what was what.
Patience is a virtue so they say, just wish I had where pumping is concerned. It can take quite a few mths for some people to see improvements in their A1c whilst on a pump where as others find basal sorted withinn 6 weeks. So don't loose heart over it.
Keep on repeating your basal tests and things will slot into place over time.
Having a pump isn't an easy option as so much extra to do with it whilst getting things right.
Once you have it sussed though things will be a lot better for you, so do hang in there.

As a matter of interest how are you doing your basal tests?
