Puzzled about TV shows dealing with diabetes

Better then throwing a brick at the TV
 
The again there is the factor of artistic or dramatic licence.
The way in which artists or writers change facts in order to make their work more interesting or beautiful.

Sort of like John Wayne wining the war all by himself.
