I have recently been diagnosed with type 2 diabetes, and am on 2 x 500g Metformin a day.
I have been given a BG meter and strips, and have to test once a day at varying times. Mostly my results are between 5.3 and 9, with an occasional blip to 12.
The thing that puzzles me, though, is that when I take a test at bedtime, like I did last night, it was 6.3 a while after a tiny meal because I wasn't hungry. I had nothing to eat or drink during the night, but when I tested first thing this morning, the reading was 6.7. This has also happened before when fasting. Is it normal for BG levels to rise when fasting overnight, and if so, why?
