Hi, I forgot to eat lunch today and my BS reading was 4.5. For tea I had processed cheese on 2 toast (I'm usually OK with this bread) but, my reading 2 hrs after meal shot up to 9.5 and felt very tired!! An hour later it was back in the 5s and I felt better, but I'm puzzled as to why that happened as cheese is supposed to have no carbs??? Usually my readings are in the 4s and 5s with the odd one in the 6s and an occasional 7, so 9.5 was a bit of a shock. Does processed cheese have anything added to it, does anyone know? I rarely eat it but last time I did it was with a salad and my BS was a little raised then.

I cannot find anything on the net about processed cheese sending blood sugars high, but food react differently for each person. For example if I had 2 slices of toast my BG would shoot up - doesn't matter what type!

The only thing I can think of, Karen, is the lactose in the cheese as I think I'm sensitive to it. Whenever I drank a cup of milk at bedtime I used to wake the next day with my face swollen. Oh well, live and learn...

Do you mean plastic cheese slices that are individually wrapped? If so, they are full of carby junk.

PS - If in doubt, I pop onto Tesco.com as it has the nutritional info of many foods.
