shocked me this number!
According to new data released by the International Diabetes Federation (IDF) Qatar has one of the highest rates of diabetes prevalence in the region, 20.2% of the population now has diabetes, IDF estimates. As a response to this global threat, a project aiming to tackle the spread of diabetes in Qatar was launched today in Doha. ‘Action on Diabetes’ is a partnership between Supreme Council of Health, the Hamad Medical Corporation, the Qatar Diabetes Association (QDA), Maersk Oil and Novo Nordisk.

20.2% is unbelievable

Maersk Oil’s Qatar office formally launched ‘Action on Diabetes’ – a new public-private partnership that aims to help the Qatari authorities tackle the spread of diabetes in Qatar on Thursday 24 November.

‘Given the high prevalence of Diabetes in Qatar, many of our employees - whether Qatari or from other countries - are either at risk of diabetes, or already have the condition, sometimes without knowing it,’ explained Lewis Affleck, Managing Director of Maersk Oil's Qatar office.

‘Our people are an absolutely central part of our success,’ said Lewis ‘which is why we are pleased to have initiated a partnership that we believe will help our staff, their families and of course the boarder community in which we live and operate to live healthier lives.’

Director of Public Health at the Supreme Council of Health, Dr. Mohammed Bin Hamad Bin J. Al-Thani, praised Maersk Oil for initiating the partnership, noting that ‘not only are you adding value by delivering hydrocarbons, but, in line with our National Vision 2030, you are also helping the health of our nation

I've seen figures that make Dubai the second worst nation for diabetes in the world after an island near Fiji. In Kuwait there is a doctor who advocates low carb, Dr Hussein Dashti.
