Hi
Can anyone help me with the 2 following queries:
1) Steel cut oats are mentioned in the low carb red/amber/green foods on the low carb group. What are these?

2) Does anyone know if Rich Bran oil is low carb? A patient has brought into our low carb group at work asking if he can use it. It contains saturated fat but more poly and mono saturated fats.

Many thanks Kay

Hi and welcome.

You should be able to find the carb content of both items by looking up the nutritional info either on the packaging, or on the internet.

For example:
http://www.mysupermarket.co.uk/tesc...ohn_McCanns_Steel_Cut_Irish_Oatmeal_793g.html
Which shows them as being 26g carbs per 40g portion.

:) i would count that high carb, but probably slightly slower release (lower GI) than more finely milled oats :)
Personally, I don’t bother with GI or GL, because the carbs still end up in the bloodstream, it just takes a bit longer.

Hello Kay - Steel cut oatmeal is very coarse cut oats. It takes far longer to cook than any of the instant stuff. Rice bran oil is low carb

If you are a health care professional, there is a HCP element to the Low Carb Programme (LCP), to support HCPs supporting their patients through the programme and to understand its aims.

If you'd like to know more, you could contact the specific LCP support desk, who will be happy to get back to you (in office hours) and guide your through things.
