Type 1 Question about calculating carbs

How is food having not much carbs but a lot of sugars calculated for determining the amount of insulin ?

And should diabetic children be totally prevented from sweets ?

If there's lots of sugar then there's lots of carbs.

No children with diabetes should not be denied sweets as all it will do is cause them to eat them in secret and gorge on them. Limited sweets the same as non diabetic children should be given as a treat after a meal with insulin to cover obviously and or to use as a hypo treatment. Just make sure it's not a false/made up hypo :)
