Can anyone advise me on taking Codeine? I'm type 1 and have been prescribed Codeine for joint pain. I'm a bit worried about taking them as I've read that they can cause a sudden drop in blood sugar levels and should I adjust my insulin.
Any advice would be appreciated.
@Perry2610 I'm sorry I really have no idea, but my advice would be to check with your GP - stating your concerns. I know your GP should know about your diabetes and insulin but it's always worth checking!
I was given Codeine at A&E when I broke my wrist (I'd already taken paracetamol for the pain). Later I bought Co-codamol to use if the pain got too much, and used these for a few days. There wasn't any significant change in my blood sugar.
Everyone is different, so it's really a case of wait and see.
Hi. I have co-codamol and it has no obvious effect on BS but co-codamol only has 8mg of codeine. Codeine can be addictive in high doses so be careful with having it for too long or too high a dose; yes is can cause constipation.
I get migraines, drug of choice was paracetamol with codeine. Because it's the only thing to help with a lie down in a darkened room migraine. Until Dexcom, which forbids paracetamol. I never noticed codeine have any impact on blood sugar, but if I'm taking codeine I'm lying in a dark room with my head in a bucket and noticing anything may be beyond me.
