I am wondering if anyone has experience of getting very bad spots/pimples around the time of their diagnosis.

For about a year prior to my diagnosis I was getting dreadful ear infections and in fact it was an ear infection that prompted my visit to the GPs and on that day the nurse saw that I had diabetes on the screen and it all kicked off... Anyway, for a few months I had been getting very bad pimples on my face. Very different to the spots if my teenage years. The thing I notice is, they really don't want to heal, or pop. And instead if coming to a head they seam to come to a scab, lots of clear fluid. (sorry to be graphic). The other thing is my nails have gone very weak, they break so easily. And when they break they pull the side of the nail down to the cuticle, I don't really remember having infections in my fingers before, but this has happened enough times now for me to notice.

Has anyone else had this experience or is it just me?

I'm sure I've read that skin infections are common for people with high blood sugar. In my own simplistic brain I think that the sweet blood is a treat for the bacteria who then get rowdy! Around the time I was diagnosed I was plagued with boils on my thighs, really painful and felt disgusting. Since getting my bg under control I've not had the problem anymore, although whether that's because of the lower bg or the weight loss I can't say!
