I managed to get into the normal range at 6 months, and there's no reason for you to be worried about a reading of 48 particularly as you are taking Metformin, and the only thing I am sure about it - other than the side effects, is that it slows the release of glucose from the liver - which - if you think about it, could be delaying your progress as one of the things I have been wanting to do is get the glucose reserves down.
