so im just wondering do i need to get a diabetees test, im 20 weeks pregnant and bmi is 32, im terrified of needles and iv to get my blood drawn every hour, im just wondering if i got my bmi down would i still have to get the test?

Hi newmum,

If u got ur BMI under 30 they may decide not to test but to lose substantial amounts of weight when pregnant probs isn't a very good thing.

Also, if I was u I would get the test regardless because I was diagnosed with GD in my second pregnancy after harassing the midwives for 4 weeks to give me the test (they were refusing because I wasn't overweight) and I was diagnosed. It went away after I gave birth to my son only to re-appear 2years later and I'm autoimmune... I wish I had of had full bloods done after I had my son so that I knew what was coming rather than being hit with it 2years later after being ill for months.....knowledge is invaluable in my book :-)

Diagnosed with GD in 2010, Completely disappeared postpartum. Re-diagnosed December 2012 with type 1.5 diabetes, age 26, BMI 23 currently controlled by only Metformin, 500mg twice a day.
