Quitting nicotine affects on BS

Hi all, the last 2 days I’ve quit nicotine (in form of vaping) after a 10 year relationship with it. It’s tough but I’m holding out, however just wondered what affect this can have on BS levels as I read that sometimes quitting smoking (nicotine) can lead to an increase in BS, but is that down to the fact that some people replace the cravings with food so put on weight and therefore BS goes up, or is there a more scientific reason? I’m just wondering if it would be more beneficial for me to quit the nicotine AFTER the Christmas period due to the more calorific nature of the foods we tend to eat during Christmas time?

Nicotine promotes the production of insulin. Cigarettes contain sugar. Nuff said.

I'm not, nor never have been a smoker, however, my take on it would be your body is just generally struggling a bit with the withdrawal. It will pass, and I'd bet your sugars will come back into line.

As I say, that's my personal logic, not backed up by scientific papers (although there could be some out there - I've just never looked).

Well done on moving even further from a smoker status. That's important for everyone, but even more important for those living with diabetes, who can be more susceptible to circulatory issues.
