Recently I had a blood test which came back with impaired fasting glucose, spoke to GP who said he would retest in 3 months. On discovering this excellent forum I have gone on a low carb diet, upped my exercise (was doing 4 miles brisk walk a day anyway) and have tried to lose some more weight. I was not fat in the first place - size 12 m and s - but I could afford to lose half a stone.
Well I was feeling really pleased have lost 5lbs now, 2" off waist. Got myself a blood meter and readings good, according to this forum, but am not happy with my after exercise readings. Have done 2 so far before and after exercise,
1. 4.9 two hours after dinner, then 45mins on cross trainer at 80% max heart rate, which I find quite easy, am not gasping for breath or anything, after exercise 5.4
2.Fasting BG just before breadfast 4.9, then low carb breakfast and 1 hr brisk dog walk 5.9 , now this is higher than it normally is 1 hr after low carb breakfast normally about 5.4ish 1 hour after.
Am so fed up with this as I am really enjoying the exercise and am feeling so much better with the low carb diet, no more blurred vision, no more tiredness, and had a really stiff shoulder which has gone!! What should I do, don't know whether to press on or not, is the longterm benefit of exercise worth making my BG higher than it was, does BG go up for anyone without diabetes after exercise. Can't understand it at all help! Also got the Bernstein book and he said the 20% of type 2's who are not overweight could be on the way to type 1, am worried about this now as all my lipids were excellent, from memory trigs 0.7 which apparently doesn't indicate insulin resistance, which I have hyothesized (hopefully wrongly!) is why my BG goes up after exercise. Have I got this right - hopefully not!
