Hi all!

I know this may sound like a dumb question but... when you have a fasting blood test done at say 915am what time should you stop eating the day before? And would munching on a Polo the morning of the test affect it in any way?

:?

Re: Random and possibly dumb queestion

wouldn't eat or drink anything after midnight (apart from water!). polo's are pure sugar so would affect glucose readings (but wouldn't affect hbA1c)

Re: Random and possibly dumb queestion

So my fast blood test results could be affected by my random Polo munch? Oh dear.....

Re: Random and possibly dumb queestion

probably not by much tho!!?!? xpect some expert can comment on that one better than i! 1.4g carb in 1 mint so doesn't sound like much!? not got a handle on this carb counting malarkey so dunno if 1.4g would raise BG by much? sounds like a tiny amount really...

Re: Random and possibly dumb queestion

I had a fasting test done and it came out at 11 (whatever that means) and I'd had a Polo and then the next one about a month later (again with Polo) was 8.5. I have no idea what any of that means!!! I've got my first clinic appointment tomorrow so I'll quiz the nurse!

get yourself some sugar free polo's!!! i know there are strict guidelines on what fasting BG should be but honestly, i'm just happy when i've got single figures! (naughty but realistic i think). so i wouldn't have liked that 11 but 8.5 is better! but 7 point something would be even better...and so on!!!! til you get to 4 which is low but good (i'm t1 and would be delighted if i could get a fasting BG of anything betwen 4-8 in the morning). i'm sure your nurse will want you to aim lower...good luck!

Yeah if you like to eat polos regularly the sugar free ones are ok. Wish they'd bring out the chewey mint sugar free one's too. I don't know if 1 polo would have affected your BG but your nurse would probably have had a few questions if she smelt peppermint on your breath. :)
