One of the 'benefits' of diabetes is that I finally get to realise that other peoples' stupid opinions are generally based on nothing in particular and are often worthless. We have more important things to worry about. Don't let them bother you. People at a group metting I was at this morning were saying exactly the same thing. It's all down to ignorance and media stereotypes.sorry I can't find where to post posts for type2 s that aren't on insulin maybe someone could move me to the right place
Beginning of rant
I'm am really depressed at the moment being diagnosed Dec 2014 had excellent control a for first 9 month now everything's gone haywire weight up blood sugar up its obviously my diet has changed radically trying to see what I'm doing wrong, but enough of that what I really am fed up over is press, reporters and other folk pointing there skinny little fingers at type 2s saying it's all your own fault ( I know this but could do without it being thrust down my throat)
I am fat and lazy but we are also human beings that need love and support not criticism
Sorry no one understands these things except other people with diabetes in any shape or form
Thanks
Jan
Hope everyone is well and looking forward to summer
Hi, it certainly is not always brought on by bad lifestyle choices, there is a certain amount of genetics going on. There is also a very strong argument to say that insulin resistance is sometimes the root cause of weight gain so the equation goes insulin resistance = weght gain= t2 diabetes, but no-one is able to SEE insulin resistance, they only see weight gain followed by diabetes. But whatever the cause, the fact is that you are diabetic and will need to deal with it. Don`t get hung up over what other people think, most of the time they couldn`t really care less about diabetics, they just like to ***** about other people. Concentrate on healing yourself and stuff themHi Ally sorry to hear you are down as well, interesting to hear about your aunt, I'm sure there must be a lot of normal weight folk with diabetes who can't blame themselves for being where they are now, it just hurts that the rest of us feel we could have prevented it but I'm not totally convinced it is all brought on by bad life style choices and just wish there was some way of knowing if we would be diabetic anyhow.
I sometimes over think things which is not good at all are you on insulin or tablets?
Love and hugs to you

I'm one of the people that doesn't blame myself for being diabetic. All my life I was as thin as a rake and never put an ounce on, I have always been careful with my family's diet with only occasional junk as treats (very occasionally) I don't drink and never have yet here I am in my early 70's diabetic type two. My sister on the other hand has had a weight and diet problem for most of her life, her family thrived on pies chips & burgers, cakes, biscuits alchohol, you name it but she doesn't have diabetes even though she's now grossly overweight & seventy ish. I believe genetics are involved here and I've always felt it so unfair that I was so careful & my sister so careless and according to all reports, she should be the diabetic not me. However that's the way it is and now I just concentrate on keeping myself well & in controlHi Ally sorry to hear you are down as well, interesting to hear about your aunt, I'm sure there must be a lot of normal weight folk with diabetes who can't blame themselves for being where they are now, it just hurts that the rest of us feel we could have prevented it but I'm not totally convinced it is all brought on by bad life style choices and just wish there was some way of knowing if we would be diabetic anyhow.
