Hi everybody out there.Im new to this forum so hope you can help.At a recent review, the nurse gave me a very small accu check meter.I currently operate two different meters in case I misplace one or the batteries fail.A couple of days later I noticed that both meter strips had been deleted from my repeats without any explanation .At the moment,I am left with this tiny accu check meter which runs on lithium batteries and is not suitable for OAP'S .I could lose it in a week easily. Has this happened to anybody else?

Gilo - There were no NICE guidelines issues in December 2015 for T2 diabetes. The following is a quote from them:

1.6.13 Do not routinely offer self-monitoring of blood glucose levels for adults with type 2 diabetes unless:
  • the person is on insulin or
  • there is evidence of hypoglycaemic episodes or
  • the person is on oral medication that may increase their risk of hypoglycaemia while driving or operating machinery or
  • the person is pregnant, or is planning to become pregnant. For more information, see the NICE guideline on diabetes in pregnancy. [new
1.6.14Consider short-term self-monitoring of blood glucose levels in adults with type 2 diabetes (and review treatment as necessary):
  • when starting treatment with oral or intravenous corticosteroids or
  • to confirm suspected hypoglycaemia. [new 2015
Whilst it isn't what you want to read. Depending on what treatment you are currently having, it may explain what your surgery has done, rather than necessarily how.

I would suggest a call just mentioning you don't seem to be able to reorder and see what they say. It could be an error on the site, although I wouldn't bet any of my pocket money on it!

Otherwise, you may be in the same boat as many of us who have to self-fund our testing.

Perhaps go back to your nurse and tell her the meter is to small and fiddly for your fingers due to your age.
