I really wouldn't take it to heart Maybird. I don't know how long you 'lurked' around the forum before posting but its always a good idea to read old posts and just read for a while first because otherwise you may misunderstand and be misunderstood. ou do have to have rather a thick skin at times because you may unknowingky upse people with even well meant comments. The fact is , as you realised , that many do not get the correc advice from their GP. In fact many T2s rarely see a GP about their idiabetes as it is alll lef to the Practice Nurse. Thiis means that the GPs lose ouch in a way with heir diabetic paients. There is allso the fact that they are onliged to @toe the party line@ with regard to dietary advice ec ebven tthough many of hem know the official advice does not work and is even harmful to ohers. In effect many people do not low carb in the strictest meaning of the term but merely reduce sarchy carbs. The exent o which they need or want to do his is up to the individual. As Dillinger stated in his very helpful post on the subject recently. this can change for everyone from time to time. It is the case with many chronic conditions- and many GPs would agree that sufferers lknow far more about day to day conrol than do the HCPs . This is paricularly rue of diabees. I cannot imagine how my GP would react were I tto consult her on cutting out potatoes , pasta etc. How many Gops or other HCPs have ime for that these days? I would be asked why I hadn consulted the Nurse for a start/ I would never have thought to consult a dr about diet unless it was a very extreme diet. Although some are very strict and others have to keep carbs to a minimum ,all LCHF means to most people is reducing carbs {esp starchy carbs} and not avoiding natural fats . I see no cause for any sort of alarm here. On the other habnd , as you will now be aware the diet recommended by the NHS and DUK can be dangerous for individuals, I was one of hose individuals. I have never been obverweight and followed a low Gi die for years before my accidental diagnosis. I was pumped full of inappropriate drugs and made to eat more carbs than ever in my life so that I could tolerate them. The result of all this {confirmed] was that I have neen fighing blindness for he past six years because my bgs were brough down too quickly. There have been many , many similar tales on here .If the official advice worked for everyone there would be no need for these support forums . So as you vcan see urging people to return to he HCPs who offferd no or wrong advice originally was bound to upset a few people.. Really don't worry about it. Stick around , you may find and give support here. Because health is so vital there are ofen heated discussions . You will learn fast I am sure.
