You know I have been through what you are now facing! Thanks for the links found it really interesting., Ive just been to a ENT specialist for something unrelated to RH and when he asked about my health history I mentioned I had been diagnosed with RH and it had taken until last year when I was 51 to get a diagnosis of RH after having to avoid sugar, fruit, pop, sweets, cakes, etc.. and missing an awful lot of school and my poor mum being at her wits end!! She is diabetic which they have been testing me for all my life..And do you know what he said? 'I do not know of any other condition only diabetes that can affect you in this way., he said it was psychological!!!I was really mad with him as I said if he bothered to look in my notes he would find that this is a real condition and I have it.. He said he would believe what I told him but he had never heard of it!! He was really off with me after this., There are so any medical people out there who know nothing about this condition.. They need to all come and read the posts on here and maybe they will learn something.. Thank you for all the informative links etc.,
I can't sleep if i am hungry, but the worst thing i can do is eat carbs before bed. I would almost certainly wake with a hypo in the middle of the night, ravenously hungry, fall face first into the fridge and start the cycle off again.
Hunger is a side effect of gradually getting rid of the carbs. It is sometimes called carb flu.
As soon as your body gets used to having less carbs and eating more protein and full fat, the hunger pangs will go. It's similar to going cold turkey!
My trick is full fat yogurt and berries a couple of hours before bed, and if I have the time, preceded by some peanuts. Been religiously following this for a couple of months and it works;-)
You can reduce the risk of acid reflux in bed by putting the head of your bed up on blocks 4-6 inches off the floor. How long can I expect this carb flu to last?
I'll try this and let you know how it works for me. It'll be good if it does. It's almost as if I need something to put my tummy to sleep. Nothing too heavy that it has to spend hours working on digesting. And nothing that'll cause acid reflux when I'm in bed. So this sounds like it'll do the job.
Congrats on loosing the weight!
My acid reflux/indigestion stuff disappeared after giving up grains. hopefully yours will settle down too, as you shift to a diet that your body can work with, rather than fight. How long can I expect this carb flu to last?

For some reason, yogurt with berries and milled linseeds never caused acid reflux for me, even if eaten really late. I remember though horrible, choking reflux before I totally gave up carbohydrates. I still have the Rennie next to my bed, just in case, and of course, water...My acid reflux/indigestion stuff disappeared after giving up grains. hopefully yours will settle down too, as you shift to a diet that your body can work with, rather than fight.
The yog sounds like a good idea.
Cocnut yogurt or soya yogurt are also options, if the milk turns out to be a problem...
My understanding is that gastritis, oesophagitis and stomach ulcers are all conditions that can be treated and that will resolve. Rather than gastritis, you may have dyspepsia which, along with GORD (gastro-oesophageal reflux disease) are ongoing/chronic conditions, which can have an unknown origin and no known cure, only management through meds and lifestyle measures. In my family there are both digestive problems and diabetes, so it is not clear which causes my dyspepsia and GORD.Can I ask as you are talking about acid reflux. I have been suffering most of my adult life with indigenous . I've had a camera and was diagnosed with having gastritis, oesophagitis and a stomach ulcer. Also problems with my gall bladder.. Is this a side affect of RH? Or is it hereditary as my family suffers with digestive problems..
Do you stay awake or do you have to be knocked out?Yes I'm on lansoprazole, but still having problems so going for another camera down the throat 3rd time.. Which I'm not happy about as I'm sure it must do some damage over time
Oh no, I think they are wrong there. I had IV sedation for mine, and I have no memory of it. I encourage you to ask about sedation options. IMO doing an endoscopy without sedation is cruel. It's unnecessary.Hi Ive aways stayed awake as they say its better.. I don't know who for though...It's bloody awful
Lansoprazole protects your body from the damage acid can do. It can reduce the absorption of certain vitamins, ie B12 and Folate, which should be checked and supplemented as needed.Yes I'm on lansoprazole, but still having problems so going for another camera down the throat 3rd time.. I'm the opposite, I'm not squeamish, I like watching the Tele, when it's going down and looking around inside me! I only had a local when they did my carpal tunnel, that was really good as the view I had was good and interesting.I know what you mean about staying awake.. Because ' I tolerate it well ' ..their words not mine, they say it's better to be awake and plus I don't have to wait for sedation to wear off.. It is bloody horrible though you have to not think about what they are doing in between retching or trying not to retch.
