Hi all Im new to this as recently told I am prediabetic Type 2.

I got a meter and started today at 7.30am with a reading of 6.8, had my porridge without sugar but a pinch of groung ginger. and milk, delicious with a cup of green tea..
The reading at 9.30am was 5.8 so that seems ok. The reading came down so I assumed that my breakfast was acceptable.

My question is if I have some fruit for lounch say an apple and a banana do I have to do the 2 hour routine again and again for tonights dinner?

If so is that what I do now everyday for ever?

The purpose of testing before and 2 hours after eating is to find out how your body reacts to different foods.
You have now seen how your body reacts to porridge (which seems pretty good).
If you repeat the exercise with your fruity lunch, you will see how well your body reacts to apple and banana.
Likewise, whatever you eat for tonight's dinner.
If the rise after two hours is too high (some people say a rise of 2mmol/l is too high and others say 3 mmol/l) for any meal, that suggests your body cannot cope with it and it is best avoided in the future.
If you repeat the same meal which previous tests has shown are ok (e.g. having porridge for breakfast each day), it is not necessary to repeat the testing as you already know how that affects you.

Oh I think I see, Im not testing myself Im testing how my body reacts to a particular meal. So as I have the same breakfast every day and if tomorrow's readings are the same there is no need to repeat the test. Thanks for your help much appreciated.

I often found and still do, that I can eat certain things during the day but after a certain time I cannot as they will spike. Its all swings and round abouts and you will get to know what works for you

Once you have sorted out your diet, you may find it beneficial to take a daily check to track your progress.

And @sailorDel I don't want to add to your confusion being new, while food is by far the biggest contributor to bg levels, things like sleep, stress, exercise, medications, illness etc can also affect it too.
Over time you will see this for yourself,
. It's amazing what our bodies get up to without us knowing.
You'll only be finger pricking for a few weeks or months, depends how varied your food is.
And we've all been there and done it. It's invaluable learning tool that brings good results

I'm not sure it ever was! We just didn't know about it, that's all = blissful ignorance
