Readings recently gone way up. Help please?

I came off statins due to side effects and found that my cholesterol reduced

I found this while searching through T2D pages today & I think it probably does more harm than good: http://www.healthline.com/health/type-2-diabetes/diet-restrictions#1 In the foods you should avoid list, it mentions both shortening & chocolate twice. Does this make it doubly important, I ask myself? Also it almost suggests that, apart from olive oil, you shouldn't have any fat at all, although you must have at least 130g of carbs a day!? I've noticed that people on here, seem to be on a lot less than that. But I find myself up against this sort of thing all the time. I know this is an American site, but I'm sure that Diabetes over there, must be the same as here surely? I noticed as well, that it doesn't mention potatoes, so I suppose I can stuff them in? Well, if I lived in the States anyway. I don't intend visiting this site again anytime soon.
