Hi
I have been on a low carb eating plan for nearly a week . I am not eating more than 30g of carbs. Evening meals consist of protein and legumes . No alcohol . I run once a week and walk 10k daily .

But yet my reading remains the same as it was when I first started which is 6.6

Any idea why it’s not lowering? I thought by eating a low carb diet it would decrease

6.6 is a good reading. When eating a low carb diet, protein eventually converts to blood sugar - this could be why - or it could be that your liver is pumping out more blood sugar. You have only been low carbing a week and it takes some time for the body to adjust.

Is that reading the only one you are doing and is it a fasting reading?

A single reading each day (and I assume morning fasting?) is a bit pointless short term to see the effect of diet change. It’s highly likely your figures throughout the day would show the difference compared to the meals you were eating before the change and will reflect in your hba1c. Morning fasted levels reflect your overall level of insulin resistance and take a lot longer to respond to the change even when the rest of the day is much better. Months or even more not days.

Better to test before and then 2 hours after your meals as the early morning reading is usually the last one to drop.
I found I could only eat very limited amounts of pulses/legumes. I filled up on green veg, green salad and good quality fats.

You can't learn much from a fasting reading, there are so many things that can influence it.
The quality of your sleep, how long since your last meal, alcohol the previous evening, but the main thing which we have no control over is the liver releasing some stored glucose.
For me the whole point of testing is to give me information that helps me to manage my condition.
I want to know what my meals are doing to my levels, because I have completed control over what I eat, the testing gives me the information I need to alter my diet.
My fasting level will be whatever my liver wants it to be, the only way I can have any impact on it is to improve my insulin sensitivity by keeping my levels as low as possible throughout the day.
