I am new to this so need to ask why my readings are averaging between 6 and 7 day and night…. any ideas appreciated . No longer pre-diabetic !

An average BG of 6.5mmol/L would give you an A1c of 39(5.7%)

In the UK pre-diabetes is defined from 42-47 so you are short of that.
What are your fasting & postprandial readings like ?

Hi @Sussex girl Are you using a Libre, or similar to measure your BG? My levels tend to be around 5 just before I go to bed and the same when I get up, but dip down into the low 4s and sometimes 3s in the night - I am not on insulin, just a half dose of metformin, so this is my 'natural' rhythm. If you are sure you aren't dipping then coming back up when you wake, and your body kicks in with the glucose release to get you out hunting for your breakfast, I'd speak to your diabetes team/nurse. Are you T1 or 2? What medication are you on? How long have you been measuring? Questions, questions, questions, sorry.

There are probably as many reasons as there are people with diabetes - when you last eat before bed, how well you sleep, what you eat in the day, how much you exercise, all sorts of factors before you even get into how well your insulin is working (or not!).
