I had a really deep hypo yesterday evening and also when i was sleeping last night. I had the most terrible leg pains that took ages to go. Is this something to be worried about or just something to do with the weather. I know that i have not been drinking enough and been working long hours at the office. Advice needed. If it happens again should i go see my doctor? Will try drinking more water today.

Certainly dehydration can cause cramps so you should try and keep hydrated and see if matters improve, but that said if its causing you great discomfort go and see your gp.

Hope you have a better day today bg wise, two hypo's in a day would wash anyone out.

i wouldn't worry this used to happen to me all the time, though only if id been running high. the solution really is to drink water, and make sure your potassium/sodium levels are good, i used to wake out of sleep screeming in pain, simply increasing my water intake during the day and it went away.

sounds like dehydration, the only time I have had bad pain/cramp in the night is when I'm dehydrated

Deffo dehydration!! It happens to me when on holiday (abroad) where I'm just generally hotter and don't drink enough fluids. Increase the water intake and this reduces or disappears completely!try to discover what caused the hypo as well, but the cramps can occur without a hypo happening if your dehydrated

I feel for you, I have experienced the leg cramps, had never had them before, omg do they hurt, I used to cry with the pain, that's why I went to my g.p in the first place, they did a wee sample and my wee was packed with protein and sugar, did a f/prick and my reading was 28, blood test then revealed the reading was 32, I was took into hospital put on a sliding scale insulin, and fluids to rehydrate me, since then no more leg/stomach cramps, have made sure I drink plenty of fluids now, especially in the warmer weather. hope it gets better for you soon.

Agree with all the above re: dehydration. As @itconor mentions you also need to ensure your electrolytes are replaced to stop cramps. On the bike I use High 5 Zero electrolyte tabs in water (or the cheaper Wiggle equivalent). Without exercising you should be getting enough from your diet.

I also wonder whether the two hypos reduced muscle glycogen storage, or ability to replenish, and if you are not able to effectively utilise fats that resulted in the cramps.

Unless it is constantly occurring I'd not be too worried other than as an acute indicator of nutrient/electrolyte issues as already mentioned.
