I was diagnosed with type 2 in may last year and prescribed metformin 500mg twice daily. I had no problem adapting to the metformin apart from a lot of passing wind. I lost 2 stone in 4 months by following a weight watcher principled diet. I was feeling great until january this year when i started to experience indigestion, something i had never had aproblem with before. I have been eating a big amount of fruit (plums, nectarines, cherries, strawberries etc) the spells of indigestion lasted about 4 hours and were really painful. The last week i had a bout of it that started at 1.30pm and by 11pm that night was still going and i couldnt stand the pain and was admitted to hospital and was there 5 days. On admittance and throughtout my blood sugar was good but my lft was "deranged". I am wondering if this has happened to anyone else. Could it be the metformin after all this time? Have i been having to much fruit? Is it just the start of gastric problems. Any comments?

Hi. It could be anything but as standard Metformin is well known for causing stomach issues ask the GP for SR (Slow Release) version
