I was diagnosed with gestational diabetes (type 1) while pregnant a year 1/2 ago. After having my baby and whilst breast feeding my sugars seemed to stabilise. Almost the day I stopped breast feeding I started to feel Ill and after doing some home testing with my monitor requested a GT test. My sugars were 24 after the 2 hours and I was refer to the diabetes clinic immediately. I was put back on insulin 2 a day of novomix. This regime did not work for me and I moved to the 4 a day instead. This was fine for a few weeks then I started suffering with 2-3 hypos a day so they dropped my insulin to just 3 injections, it gradually reduced until I was just having 1 slow acting a day and even then I was still having hypos. They have taken me off it completely to see what happens, I have been fine for a while with the occasional high but always fine by the morning. I eat well avoiding sweets cakes etc, my only vice is a glass of wine on an evening. The past week or 2 my BS has been increasing with readings as high as 19.6 but as low as 5.8, I have been getting the headaches, thirst etc, but on testing my urine there are no ketones, ( the doc asked me to do this). I understand that I am probably in the honeymoon period but it is really confusing when you dont quite know where your at. I am going to contact my nurse tomorrow but was wondering, has anyone else been in a similar situation or can anyone offer any advice.

Thanks, I think I am panicking at the mo as I worry about the sugars, but also worry if I have any insulin again will I start having hypos again. It is very hard when you work full time and worry about having hypos in meetings etc and also when you have a 15 month baby and worry about hypos when we are on our own.

I could not get hold of my nurse ( we kept missing each other) but I am contemplating giving myself 2 units of novo rapid to reduce down my levels of 15, 3 hours after heating. I was only having 2 units a meal before I was taken off the insulin. What does anyone think?

I saw my nurse yesterday and I am now to have 2 units at lunch and 4 at tea. Just got to watch the levels now and see what happens.
