I ate chips yesterday... I know, I know... 2 hours later my BG was at 10, not too bad, but I decided to not eat for the rest of the night, took Metformin and went to bed. Today my BG was at 14! ***? I am so frustrated right now and beating my self up. I am getting to the stage that I am fearing food! I have ran up and down the stairs because it is raining outside. My mate wants to have a movie night tonight, she has bought loads of snacks and things. I just don't know what to do. My friends don't understand what I am going through. They just think I can't eat sugar. I feel like I am in a never ending battle with myself and I know my friends are sick of hearing about it, lets face it, if you don't have it you don't understand - I didn't!

Arrrrgh!

I know it is a learning curve but I honestly can't see me coping with this. I am becoming obsessed, it is in my mind 24/7 and it is driving me banannas! It doesn't help that I am single. I just kinda want someone to give me a hug ans say that I will get through this.

A few years ago, I was severly depressed and was suicidal, I got help and got better, and now I have this! It is like some sick cosmic joke!

Great big virtual hugs from me, and it WILL get better, I promise you.

Our morning readings are almost always the last to come down, so please don't beat yourself up about this. Just avoid the chips in future, or save them for an occasional treat and restrict yourself to a much smaller portion.

As for your friends, perhaps tell them your diabetes makes you carb-intolerant and that eating too many makes you ill. Maybe you could make yourself some diabetes friendly snacks to nibble, or tell your friends you will provide the nibbles and they can bring a bottle of red wine. In any event, don't panic and don't let this disease control you. Put yourself in control. You have a life to live, so enjoy your movie night with some nuts, cheese, pork scratchings, berries and cream, or any other low-carb treat, and a glass of red wine.

Had you had anything to eat before your walk? If not, I suggest you try again but have some breakfast first. I don't know the first thing about insulin or when to take it, but I do know we get liver dumps if we go too long without food. It is our body's way of stopping us from starving, and this is even more important if we exercise in that period.

Mmm that may be it I have been trying to eat small and often to lower readings but it ends up with me starving and when I am my readings most of the time go up.

LOL.. you're not the first one to have a feed of chips and you wont be the last...in fact you may have a chip feed again, but smaller sized next time

Hugs from me Every Cloud, but Im an old woman,Im not far behind you,had a few bad days BS wise and I dont know why,I think we all go through this, dont get down ,

Just tell yourself you've been a bit dozy doofer, BUT you are allowed to be on occasion (as we all are), enjoy a few cyber hugs here, dust yourself off and try to carry as if it never happened. And remember: we're not saints, we're human and as such we all have occasional failings. Treat them as little blips, but never let them become scary monsters ruling your life.

If I've had a bit of a naughty binge, I've learned it's best for me to then just carry on eating as normal (low carb) and things sort themselves out. If you don't eat, your liver thinks "OMG our throat's been cut, I'll dump a nice big dollop of glucose into the system to stop us starving!" So you get a high reading, and this is usually worst in the mornings.

Bluetit's given you a good list of tasty and safe to eat snacks so get yourself some of those to enjoy with your movie.

Robbity
(who's spent the last week or so being a right dozy doofer...so you're in good company! )
