diabetes.
Hey, not sure what to do as it's the weekend now and all the diabetes team have headed home but I recently had an operation in hospital and from that my sugars were really high before and after struggling to come down, stayed there a week and came home been home for 5 days now sugars have been back to the norm for me but I have now noticed I am completely hypo unaware. No signs whatsoever of going low, normally I shake and my legs go like jelly and I can't think but I tested earlier and I was having a hypo but felt completely fine and normal?!? Erm help?!

The usual advice is to run bg levels slightly higher than normal for a few weeks which normally resets the hypo awareness symptoms, obviously during this time you'll need to monitor your bg more closely to avoid any hypo's, hopefully your dsn will say much the same.

Hope you make a full recovery and good luck!

I think it depends how long you have had type 1 diabetes. I had diabetes with good symptoms of hypo for 40 years and then it became unreliable. As a consequence I had a few bad hypos and was recommended to move to a pump. With a pump they tend to come on more slowly and I am achieving far better control my HB A 1c is about 6.5-7.0. Typically the threshold for symptoms go lower if you are used to running at lower levels of blood sugar. Currently I notice subtle changes at about 3.5 but only become obvious at or below 2.5. IF you have had diabetes for a long time and the problem is persisting it may be worth considering a pump, it is one of the NICE recommended indications. Since going on the pump I had had no significant hypos (nearly 3 years). I use the Accu-chek Aviva Combo.
