Hi there. Has anybody else read this: http://www.diabetes.co.uk/news/2013/Feb/diabetes-raises-infertility-risk-for-men-96655746.html ?

I was diagnosed with type 2 Diabetes when I was 16 and I’m 32 now. I’ve been married for five years and starting a family isn’t something that has come easily. I’m already the father of a wonderful two-year old but my wife and I have just discovered that we’re pregnant again. It’s early days yet but I hate to think of us being at an increased risk of miscarriage because of my Diabetes (or potentially my ongoing struggle to control it properly) since this is something that we’ve been through previously and it has taken us a long time to recover from it.

In addition to the above, it does seem to have taken longer than many of our friends when we’ve been trying for a baby. It was about 18 months for our first (including the miscarriage) and we’d been trying for about a year before finding that my wife is pregnant again two and a half weeks ago. I’m not sure whether this is normal given that we’re both relatively young (wife is 26) and otherwise fit and healthy.

At risk of rambling on, I think I’d find it helpful to hear from anyone who has been affected either by miscarriage or difficulties conceiving that may be linked to their Diabetes. The evidence in the study linked to above seems to be from a relatively small sample group and the Diabetics were all recently diagnosed so would probably not have had their Diabetes very well under control. This said, I don’t know whether this is relevant, hence my posting here.

Many thanks,
Dan
