Recently diagnosed pre diabetes.trying to figure it all out!

Brilliant thankyou for that!
Sounds like the course is actually quite informative.
Yep I decided I will tell them ide like a retest in another 3 months which will have made it around 6 months since the last one.. no more Mrs yes sor no sir 3 bags full for me!lol

Hi re the weight loss. I am a vegan for ethical reasons. Have been for nearly twenty years. I started doing vegan keto and it took me around a month for any weight loss to start showing on my scales. Have now lost over 15 kgs still have a bit to go. So I would say keep going it will happen.

Oh totally agree thankyou I never really ate alot of junk .rarely ever had many take aways..never drank orange juice or sugary drinks .with the exception of crisps!that Is partly why this was such a surprise having always been quite aware about nutrition etc.I now know that even the most concious have been tricked into doing what we think is good for us food wise.
However of course like so many people out there I never gave much thought to the carbs I ate ..as all diabetes tests were perfect before I got so sick over night.
The combination of ****** convenience food like pasta rice and gluten free packaged stuff which Is PACKED full of sugar and carbs because I was unable to cook ..becoming sedentary (I used to walk an hour most days with my dogs)and 8 months on steroids I reckon kicked this all off..I also had a small amount of sugar in my urine 20 years ago during my last pregnancy..I now know this is also a risk factor but of course no one ever told me!

That is fantastic that you've got your numbers down and feel alot better now ..I love that.
Do you feel that you're not really tempted much anymore anyway because you just don't want to do it to yourself and your body? I feel like this now ..I'm happy to make the sacrifice ..plus there are loads of things I don't react to at all ..like dark chocolate after a meal so yay for that!.
Ive even started having takeaways ..kebab tons of salad all the sauces ..no pitta..I mean what's to feel deprived about really.
I think you should post those Morris dancing meals for us

That's truly incredible.I salute you for that.
With vegan it is imperative to get it right.I just couldn't for many reasons and had to make the very very difficult decision to come off of it..

I'm not sure what's going on here I have replied to all of you individually but my replies seemed to have disappeared .. maybe a forum glitch or something.just don't want anyone to feel I've not responded to all you're supportive messages.

I can see your replies… must be a glitch

In Australia the dietary guidelines for a person my age and sex is 6 serves of “cereals and grains” (one of our 5 food groups). One serve is 500kJ or, for example, one slice of bread… so if I was following the guidelines I’d be eating at least 120g of net carbs (i.e excluding fibre) a day and that’s before carbs from the other food groups (e.g. fruit, veg, legumes). I eat no where near that and have no intention of eating that. This isn’t a choice I consciously made, it’s just how I’ve always eaten. I have made some small changes like swapping cow’s milk for almond, hazelnut or soy which reduced my carb intake even further since my diagnosis but not huge sweeping changes and not all at once. I do have to have some carbs because I’m on insulin but not 6 serves of cereals and grains… I wouldn’t even enjoy that. My DE and dietician are fine with my diet so that’s good. I do miss chips/crisps but I never ate huge amounts of them anyway but still occassionally have them as a treat (balance and moderation) and as a long-acting carb to treat hypo after quick-acting carbs... the oil content I assume is what makes the crisps sustain me at a higher BSL for longer

Edit: I realise that you’re not on insulin, but this reply is more about carbs and my mention of insulin is only for completeness. Even if I had a different type of diabetes or pre-diabetes I think I’d struggle to eat the amount of carbs our guidelines suggest. They’s due for a new release this year and it will be interesting to see if their stance on what I call super-high carb has changed…

That's interesting..I guess you must eat plenty of low carb veggies and nuts ?
It's truly crazy when you start diving into all this just how scary the recommendations are ..(its pretty much the same here in the UK from what I can gather )
Im off to Google diabetes 3.

Just adding to this...I had heard about type 3 but didn't correlate type 3 with the (c)
Wow you must have been really going through it ..very sorry to hear.
I do hope you are on top of things now?

Yes, low carb vegies, nuts, cheese, avocado, meat etc etc… lots to choose from

I was in hospital with the pancreatitis for 2 months, most of it an induced coma... which means I cannot remember most of it thank goodness.

Thank you. After I got diagnosed with diabetes it was tough — lots of up and down emotions and adjustments to medication and stuff. Fortunately things have settled down. I still have bad days emotionally but perhaps that’s natural and I am developing coping strategies

Awww that all sounds pretty harrowing.
I very luckily havnt experienced anything as serious as you, but I do have an understanding re some of the emotional issues with constant diagnosises and the loss of my physical freedom.
And often these situations absolutely stop us in our tracks.
You are clearly very courageous.
I think whatever health problem we have, bad days are par for the course. And after alot of anger and frustration over the last few years, I think I'm kind of coming to terms with that ...its ok to feel ****** off and its ok for my body to have days where its struggling.Just have to listen to it and rest and go with it all I suppose...theres so much we are in control of and some things we arnt I think accepting that is probably the key really.
I hope you continue to heal and make progress in your journey
