Hi I’m just after a bit of advice , I’m 31 had to have a blood test as I’d missed two monthly’s the following day got a phone call saying I’m type 1 diabetic from my gp he said I had to wait to hear from the diabetic nurse but **** me up by saying I’m in a bad way if I feel ill at all go to a&e and things like that it took about a week to speak to my nurse she put me on metoformin I had to build it up to 4 a day and she thinks with my family history I’m type two not one I’ve been doing that for just over a month and my bloods are between 10-14 which is a lot better than the 27 I started off on! I’ve now got to go on a injection once a week ozempic semaglitide , has anyone had this injection at all if so how did it go , my nurse said my aim is for my bloods to be between 6 and 9, I’ve stopped drinking fizzy no potatoes no pasta is there any diet that’s any good to try and drop weight that’s good for a diabetic
Thanks in advance

Re your request for info on a weight loss diet to reverse T2 diabetes. (as opposed to simply lower blood sugar) It does not have to be the extremely low cal one Newcastle used. Any diet that causes weight loss of around 15 Kg will do.
https://www.ncl.ac.uk/magres/research/diabetes/reversal/#publicinformation
Hear all about from Professor Roy Taylor the 5 minute summary.

• Type 2 diabetes is a potentially reversible condition
• If a person has type 2 diabetes, they have become too heavy for their own body (nothing to do with the arbitrary concept of obesity)
• Weight loss of around 15kg is necessary for most people
• This can be achieved using a simple 3-step method: the 1, 2, 3 of diabetes reversal
• Type 2 diabetes is most easily reversed to normal in the early years after diagnosis
• How and why type 2 diabetes happens can now be understood

Read Richard Doughty's personal story Type 2 diabetes and the diet that cured me on the Guardian website, including a video interview of another personal story. You can also read an update from Richard, I reversed my diabetes in just 11 days, on the Mail Online.

Hi and welcome @amygirl

How confident are you and your docs that you are T1 or T2?
The reason I ask is that the information @Tannith posted above is specifically aimed at weight loss for type 2 diabetics, and won't reverse T1.

As a T1, any weight loss regime is likely to be helpful, but you would be better listening to the experiences of other T1s.
If you are a T2 then you may well benefit following T2 information, since that is usually extreme low cal options (such as given above by Tannith) or low carb options (which may not be helpful when you are still adjusting and learning medication management.

If you have a read of the forum, you will likely see a number of people advising not to make drastic changes in diet at the same time as adjusting to new medication.

Hope that helps.

Edited to add:
The water may be further muddied because you have been prescribed ozempic semaglitide, which I have just googled, and it looks like that drug is one given to T2s, and is not given to T1s, who are usually started straight onto insulin.

May I suggest that you go back to your doc and get clarification as to which Type of Diabetes you have?
It will make a big difference in the future for both medication and dietary choices, and can be verified by lab tests. Please don't assume that a doc or nurse who announces that you are T1 or T2 because of how you look, or your age, has made the correct diagnosis.
